There are many different roles in the disability sector including: early childhood intervention professional, support worker, developmental educator, support coordinator, social worker, psychologist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, to name a few. It is likely your focus is on your client, the person with disability and, usually, their parent carers. It is important to remember that disability impacts all members of a family, including siblings, and that their input is vital to positive outcomes for the person with disability as well as whole family functioning. Disability professionals can play an important role in assisting families to access services and resources which will help the disability professional’s client reach their goals and strengthen the whole family.
