Hello from Western Australia!
The past few weeks have been an incredible family adventure as we’ve made our way across Australia’s Top End and into the Kimberley. Our journey began in Darwin before exploring the waterfalls of Litchfield, the hot springs around Katherine, and spending a few days in Kununurra, where I even managed to squeeze in a parkrun before we headed onto the iconic Gibb River Road.
The Gibb certainly lived up to its reputation! We crossed rivers, bounced our way along corrugated roads, hiked to spectacular gorges and waterfalls, swam in some of the most beautiful swimming holes imaginable, and finished each day around a campfire under a blanket of stars. We also experienced the unexpected when we had to quickly pack up and evacuate our campsite because of a nearby bushfire. Thankfully, everyone was safe, and it’s a story we’ll be telling for many years to come.
We’re now enjoying some time in Broome, where we’ve watched the sunset from the back of a camel on Cable Beach and experienced the incredible Horizontal Falls from both the air and the water, a truly unforgettable experience.
Working in wellbeing, I often encourage others to prioritise taking time to rest and recharge. This holiday has been a wonderful reminder that I need to take my own advice from time to time too. After what has been a busy and rewarding few years at Siblings Australia, it has been incredibly special to swap emails, meetings and my work laptop for hiking boots, bathers, hitch up the caravan, and take my family on an unforgettable adventure. I’m looking forward to returning in August refreshed, re-energised, and with plenty of stories (and photos!) to share.
